about

This was the third piece I did during Angel Week. "Lighter Than Air - Play Like an Angel" is the name that came to me as soon as I started composing this little piece.

It's short. And very playful. But today, as I re-listened before burning to disc, the words 'lighter' and 'enlighten' were playing around in my head. I thought about how the word enlighten is related to the word light, and I don't just mean the sense of the absence of darkness. I'm thinking of light as in weightless. I suspect that enlightenment has a lot to do with plain old 'lightening' up. As in discarding the weary and heavy burden of worry.

The whole week the angels were in my studio, I had a sense that angels exist in a state of total lightness, as if floating on air: no worries or anxiety about the future or the past, but rather joy in experiencing the everlasting present.

May it be so for me! This is the enlightenment that I crave. I would say that it is also what I strive for....but I guess striving automatically negates lightness of being. I have a lot to learn! But I am a willing student.

Organizing and writing my thoughts about The Three Angels Project, I find myself contemplating the three requests for help that I made of the angels.

What are requests if not prayers? Do I believe in the power of prayer to effect change, in fact, to be answered? Yes, I suppose so, but not always in the way I anticipate. Can I be open and trust that I will be led in the right direction when I ask for divine help in prayer? Not always, frankly.

I remember reading once that prayer is not so much talking as listening. So, I'm trying to listen to the inner voice which I hope is guidance. I am choosing to believe that the angels are helping me, are answering my prayers, in a way I did not foresee.

Suddenly, it occurs to me: music is a universal language! The angels gave me a gift of songs without words because melody and harmony transcend boundaries of nationality and language...music is universally understood.
