I'm not sure why this piece is titled "In Stillness and Strength." That is the name that came to me immediately as I worked on it. And I decided not to question any of the creative impulses that came to me while I was working with the angels in the studio. And so, "In Stillness and Strengh" it is.

The central melody of this little piece is from an old Christian Science hymnal I bought at a thrift store. I collect old hymnals. It's funny, because that hymnal was on top of the keyboard that my friend Sonya was playing when she came to visit me in my studio. Sonya asked me, "Do you have a Christian Science hymnal? I'd love to see a Christian Science hymnal."

"Yes," I said. "I do." But then I went through stacks of hymnals and couldn't find it (not surprising since I tend to live and create in chaos!)

Shortly after she left, I spotted the very hymnal I had been looking for right on the keyboard where Sonya had been sitting. I e-mailed her: "If it had been a snake, it would have bitten us."

Anyway, I think it was fortuitous we overlooked it, because I probably would have suggested that she borrow it (she was raised in a Christian Science home.) Then, I would not have been able to open it and find this particular melody, which I believe I was intended to find and use in the Angel Project.
