I wrote this song a few years back, after the financial crash in 2008. When I was looking for another song this afternoon, I found this one and it still seemed appropriate, especially in my little home town which is seeing a lot of controversy right now.

Don't Shout Me Down by Dogwood Daughter

Our country is full
Of people that hurt
Losing their houses
Folks without work
Tossing and turning
Can't sleep at night
Everyone's worried
So don't pick a fight

I know when you shout
It's cause you're afraid
Most of us are
We've made some mistakes
I'm just like you
I live here too
Don't shout me down
Don't shut me out
I live here too
Don't shout me down

I won't turn on you
So don't turn on me
We're in this together
We're not enemies
We need every hand
Each heart and each voice
To turn this around
And turn down the noise
